JUNIPERO SERRA MUSEUM - PERSONAL

The Junipero Serra Museum sits on the original site of the San Diego Mission; the first of the California Missions. It was later moved inland further up the river due to tension between the friars and the battalion that was also stationed there.

Just like the current Mission, its position is flanked by modern development, which is both saddening (as it’s sounds and sights are ever present) and also pleasing (because they’ve managed to maintain an oasis of history amongst the drab modern buildings and roads).

I went there on a May afternoon simply to wander and take photos. It was incredibly peaceful and I was surprised to find I was only one of maybe five people there during that hour.
